I do GROWN UP STUFF
/Each month on the 1st and 15th I have it scheduled in my calendar online to pay bills.
Being self-employed I don’t get a regular pay check every two weeks so I use these two dates each month; the 1st and 15th. If you have a regular pay day every two weeks then use those regular pay days to pay bills.
Schedule the two dates each month in a calendar that you use to make sure nothing is missed.
The frequency of every two weeks is done to avoid any late fees, and interest on credit card balances.
I want to pay my credit card balances off in FULL to avoid the interest charge.
Tips:
1, Create two folders in your email called "To pay" and "Paid"
2. Then as bills or credit card statements arrive into your inbox you just move the emails over to the “To pay” folder. This is an efficient system so I can just deal with all the bills on my two days of the month (shared below) rather than as they come in throughout the month.
3. The 1st and 15th (or on specific pay days) I go into the "To pay" folder and pay those bills sitting there. It is every two weeks about so nothing is paid late.
If you pay the bill in FULL then move it to the "Paid" folder.
If you pay the bill in PARTIAL then keep in the "To Pay" folder until it is paid in FULL.
4. Write down in your journal the amount paid, date paid, what account it was paid from if you have more than one, and confirmation number.
If you don't have a journal and pay using your phone then take a screen shot of the confirmation screen to save in a photo album called "Paid"
The PURPOSE of this routine is to SAVE you TIME trying to remember to sit down to do this each month. We need to save up our brain capacity for more joyous things to do in life.
Also doing this regularly helps avoid paying unnecessary FEES and INTEREST - on time payments result in a stellar CREDIT SCORE.
A good credit score can help you get a credit card, vehicle loan, and mortgage. Plus a high score you can get the best rates to borrow the money.
P.S. Stay tuned to read about my credit score disaster when I dropped the ball on using this schedule - I stopped checking my Canadian banking for awhile when I lived in Australia this past year and something went terribly wrong.
